Find your own way of photographing the city. I arrange private photography and Lightroom lessons in Manchester, in English or Italian, with room to ask questions, repeat an exercise and work at your own pace.

Photography & conversation

Photography, in the language that suits you.

ITALIANO

Prefer to learn in Italian?

Photography and Lightroom lessons can be taught entirely in Italian. Ask questions and work through the technical terms in the language you feel most comfortable using, with time to try things for yourself.

ENGLISH + ITALIANO

Learning Italian? Bring your camera.

Practise Italian while taking photographs: talk about colours, light and what you see. We can mix Italian conversation with English explanations, at a pace that feels comfortable.

Photography remains the focus, with informal conversation adapted to your Italian level. Come on your own, with friends, or ask about a session for your conversation group. Tell me your starting level and how many people would join.

What we can work on

Make a clear image from a busy scene.

When a city scene feels busy, adding more camera settings rarely makes the picture simpler. A Manchester lesson can start with choosing one subject, finding a background and waiting for the right moment. We can connect those decisions to focus and exposure, then review what worked.

01

Simplify street and architectural scenes

Practise noticing repeating shapes, layers and backgrounds. We can compare several frames of the same subject and discuss how a small change of position makes the photograph easier to read.

02

React to changing light

Work with shutter speed, aperture and ISO as you move between brighter and shaded locations. Start with your current camera settings and learn which changes are useful for the subjects you enjoy.

03

Review and develop your own work

Bring selected photographs and your laptop for indoor Lightroom tuition. We can identify stronger images, work through a considered edit and build a workflow you can repeat after the lesson.

How it works

A lesson in the part of Manchester that suits you.

Tell me your preferred neighbourhood or postcode and whether you want an outdoor session, camera help at home or Lightroom tuition. We agree a specific location, taking account of access, travel and the time needed to practise. A central-city meeting point is one possibility, rather than a requirement.

I can also discuss a private session for friends or an Italian conversation group. Tell me the number of people and their experience in both photography and Italian. The programme, length and full price, including any travel charge and agreed venue or parking costs, are confirmed before booking.

  1. Tell me your starting point

Your preferred area, camera or Lightroom version, learning goals and number of people.

  2. Agree the details

I reply with a suggestion. We confirm the date, length, location and total price, including any travel charge, before booking.

  3. Come ready to practise

Bring the equipment we agree on. For an outdoor lesson: a charged battery, space on your memory card and shoes suited to the route.

Before you get in touch

A few practical questions.

Can I learn photography entirely in Italian?

Yes. You can ask for the whole photography or Lightroom lesson in Italian. If you are learning Italian, we can instead arrange informal conversation practice alongside photography, with English support.

Do I need a new camera?

Tell me what you already use before buying anything. We can usually plan useful exercises around your current camera and lenses, with any equipment needs discussed beforehand.

Can a mixed-experience group take part?

Tell me about everyone’s starting point and goals. I can suggest a format if those needs work together, or discuss a more suitable arrangement before you commit.
